The Habshan gas processing complex in Abu Dhabi, one of the world's largest such facilities, has sustained significant damage and suspended operations following an attack. Falling debris from the intercepted attack caused two fires, resulting in the death of one Egyptian contractor during evacuation and minor injuries to four others. An assessment of the damage is ongoing, and the affected area has been isolated.

Impact on Operations and Supply

While Adnoc Gas states domestic gas demand is being met through its other facilities with no customer impact, international supplies have been affected. The company is collaborating with international customers and partners. This incident is part of a series of attacks; the Habshan facility has been hit twice since the start of the Middle East conflict, with a prior shutdown announced last month following missile strikes from Iran.

Broader Context of Regional Conflict

The attack on Habshan occurs amidst a wider impact on regional energy infrastructure due to the ongoing Middle East war. Adnoc Gas is also reducing LNG production in the UAE because of the conflict and the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Furthermore, QatarEnergy's entire LNG export capacity is currently offline, with repairs to some trains potentially taking years.

Other Affected Adnoc Facilities

Multiple other Adnoc-operated facilities have been affected. These include the shutdown of the Bab onshore oil and gas field following missile attacks, and the suspension of operations at the Shah sour gas field after a drone strike caused a fire last Monday. Attacks have also previously impacted the Fujairah port export facility and Adnoc’s Ruwais refinery complexes.
