Petrobras Confirms Deepwater Gas Discovery Offshore Colombia

Petrobras has confirmed a new natural gas discovery at the Copoazu-1 exploratory well in the GUA-OFF-0 Block, located offshore Colombia. This discovery strengthens the emerging deepwater gas province in the region. The well is situated approximately 36 kilometers from the coast in water depths of 964 meters and is positioned near the previously drilled Sirius-1 and Sirius-2 wells, which reinforces the broader exploration potential of the block.

Discovery Details and Operations

Drilling operations at the Copoazu-1 well commenced in November 2025 and are currently ongoing. The presence of gas-bearing intervals was confirmed through wireline logging and fluid sampling. Notably, hydrocarbons were also identified in a secondary target zone, which increases the overall significance of the discovery. Further laboratory analysis is planned to characterize the reservoir's properties and to estimate volumes.

Partnership and Strategic Importance

The GUA-OFF-0 block is operated by Petrobras through its subsidiary Petrobras International Braspetro B.V., which holds a 44.44% interest. Its partner in the venture is Ecopetrol S.A., which holds the remaining 55.56% stake. This discovery aligns with Petrobras's strategic objective of expanding its reserves through frontier exploration activities and supports regional energy security.
