TGS has initiated a new multi-client pre-stack depth migration (PSDM) reprocessing project for the Bonaparte basin offshore Australia. The objective is to enhance subsurface imaging and geological understanding to support future acreage evaluation and exploration.

Geological Context and Objectives

The Bonaparte basin is an established hydrocarbon province on Australia's North West Shelf, containing past discoveries of gas and oil. The region is geologically diverse, with key exploration targets spanning from Permian carbonates to Cretaceous submarine fans. The reprocessing project specifically aims to improve imaging of deeper geological plays and aid regional geological interpretation.

Reprocessing Scope and Technical Workflow

The project involves reprocessing four specific data sets:

• Cygnus 3D and Cartier 3D: These surveys will undergo a PSDM workflow that incorporates full waveform inversion for velocity model building. The output will be a seamlessly matched and merged contiguous 3D volume covering 8,735 square kilometres.
• Grand Ashmore 2D and Vulcan 2D: These data sets will be reprocessed using advanced demultiple techniques and multi-iteration tomographic model building. The workflow will produce a high-quality tilted transverse isotropy PSDM volume and a matched and merged 2D data set totalling 10,768 line kilometres.

Expected Outcome

The application of the latest seismic reprocessing technologies is designed to deliver higher-quality data. This enhanced data is intended to support more informed exploration decisions across offshore Australia.
