Adura, a UK North Sea independent operator, has reiterated the case for developing its controversial Jackdaw and Rosebank projects, emphasizing their national significance. The UK's Offshore Petroleum Regulator for Environment and Decommissioning (Opred) has opened a public consultation period on Jackdaw, with responses due by 10 August.

Economic and Tax Contributions

Adura, a Shell-Equinor joint venture, states that over £3 billion ($4 billion) has been invested in the projects to date. If approved, they are estimated to contribute £28.7 billion to the economy (in gross value added) over their lifetimes. By the end of the current UK parliament in May 2029, the projects would generate £1.4 billion in tax revenues, rising to £3.8 billion by 2034, with over £720 million in tax at peak production.

Employment and Energy Security

The operator highlights that 3,500 jobs would be created at peak construction, with 880 "high-quality, well-paid jobs" sustained throughout production. Combined gas production from Jackdaw and Rosebank would account for 10% of UK output, with Rosebank contributing significantly to European oil supply security, including refined products like jet fuel and motor fuels. Adura notes that oil and gas currently supply about 75% of the UK's energy needs, and without these projects, the country would need to source hydrocarbons from overseas.

Project Development Details

Jackdaw, an ultra high-pressure, high-temperature field, will be developed as a wellhead platform already installed on location, tied back to the Shearwater facility. At Rosebank, on the UK Atlantic Margin, the retrofitted Petrojarl Rosebank floating production, storage, and offloading vessel arrived at its location last month.
