Executive Changes at BP and Other Energy Companies

BP announced that deputy chief executive Carol Howle will retire, and executive vice president for people, culture and communication Kerry Dryburgh will leave the company in the third quarter. Sam Skerry, senior vice president of mergers and acquisitions and business development, has been appointed executive vice president for supply, trading and shipping, while Sonya Adams, chief executive chief of staff, has been appointed executive vice president for people and culture, both effective 1 August.

Leadership Shifts at COSL and Namcor

Zhao Shunqiang resigned as chairman, chief executive and executive director of China Oilfield Services Ltd (COSL) due to a work arrangement adjustment. Liu Jianzhong has been appointed chief executive, and the board proposed his appointment as an executive director, subject to shareholder approval, which would also make him chairman. Lu Tao resigned as executive director of COSL for similar reasons. In Namibia, the government appointed Victoria Sibeya as managing director of state oil company Namcor.

Appointments at TES, Mubadala Energy, and Baker Hughes

Former Shell executive Clare Harris has been appointed chief executive of renewable gas developer Tree Energy Solutions (TES). Mubadala Energy appointed Adnan Bu Fateem as acting chief executive, while he continues as chief operating officer. Roy Martin has taken on a new role at Baker Hughes as strategy director for the Industrial & Energy Technology (IET) business segment.

Board and Executive Moves at Savannah Energy, UK Carbon Markets Forum, and Trafigura

Savannah Energy appointed Uyi Akpata as non-executive director, effective immediately. Mike Zehetmayr is the newly appointed chair of the UK Carbon Markets Forum, succeeding Dame Clara Furse. Stephan Jansma, Trafigura's chief financial officer, has been appointed executive director of the company’s board, effective immediately.

New Roles at EIG, Hafnia, and Strike Energy

Brian Pownall has stepped into a new role as global head of upstream, leading EIG credit and MidOcean US equity strategies across the upstream sector. Soren Steenberg Jensen, executive vice president and head of asset management at oil tanker company Hafnia Limited, has been appointed chief executive, replacing Mikael Skov, who steps down effective 1 September. At Australian independent Strike Energy, chief financial officer Tim Cooper will step down on 26 September, following the departure of chief executive Peter Stokes in May; a process to appoint a new CFO has been launched.

CEO Appointments at Unique Group, Eidesvik Offshore, and Woodside Energy

Subsea technologies and engineering player Unique Group appointed Giovanni Corbetta as chief executive. At Eidesvik Offshore, Steinar Saetre replaced Tore Hettervik as employee representative board member, with Petter Lonning replacing Saetre as substitute member. Woodside Energy's non-executive director Tony O'Neill stepped down effective 1 July.

Leadership at Jera Global, Yantai Jereh, and TGS

Irtiza H Sayyed has been appointed chief executive of the newly-formed Jera Global Energy Solutions, which will develop and manage JERA’s long-term LNG, upstream, lower-carbon fuels and shipping portfolio. Li Weibin resigned as vice president of Yantai Jereh Oilfield Services Group for work-related reasons but will remain with the company to oversee overseas oil and gas engineering, natural gas, and small modular reactor (SMR) businesses. Gwenaelle Salaun started a new position as lead geoscientist at TGS.
