BW Offshore is advancing procurement for critical equipment for a large floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel destined for Equinor's Bay du Nord project offshore eastern Canada. The FPSO, with a capacity of 160,000 barrels per day, will be located in the Flemish Pass basin in 1,165 meters of water and is scheduled for operation in 2031.

Key Procurement Requirements

The company has issued multiple expressions of interest for topsides and hull equipment. A central requirement across the procurements is the need for robust systems capable of operating in the project's harsh environment, which is prone to severe weather and icebergs.

Specific Equipment Sought

The procurement inquiries cover several major systems:

• Thrusters and Generators: Two 6,500-kilowatt azimuth thrusters for heading control and maneuvering, along with two marine power generator packages with four-stroke diesel engines. Responses were due by January 6.
• Oil Offloading System: A system to transfer crude to a dynamically positioned shuttle tanker with a bow loading system. A key specification is its ability to connect in significant wave heights of 4.5 meters and to disconnect and operate in waves up to 5.5 meters.
• Pump Packages: This includes three seawater lift pump packages, 33 submerged pumps for various uses, and four firewater pump packages. Responses for the thruster, offloading system, and pump packages are due by January 16.
• Compressors: Low, medium, and high-pressure compressor units, with a specific requirement that prototype or novel designs are not acceptable. Responses for this were due on January 2.
