Eni is set to immediately begin seismic acquisition activities on the TL-SO-22-23 production sharing contract offshore Timor-Leste. This 4,032-square-kilometer block is strategically located adjacent to significant, undeveloped gas discoveries.

Strategic Location and Adjacent Resources

The contract area is situated near the Woodside Energy-operated Greater Sunrise gas fields (Sunrise, Troubadour, and Sunset) and Sunda Energy’s Chuditch gas discovery. The Greater Sunrise fields, discovered over 50 years ago, were recently confirmed for development as a 5 million tonnes per annum offshore LNG project in Timor-Leste.

Exploration Commitment and Operational Plan

Eni's initial work commitment involves acquiring 1,500 square kilometers of 3D seismic data and approximately 50 line kilometers of 2D seismic data. Following acquisition, the data will be processed and interpreted to define a drillable prospect, with a wildcat well planned for the third year of the first exploration period.

Seismic Acquisition Campaign Details

The seismic survey, contracted to Shearwater GeoServices, is scheduled to commence imminently. Operations are planned to start on 18 April and be completed within 42 days, with scouting activities having begun on 6 April. The survey will utilize the vessel SW BLY, supported by one support vessel and three chase vessels, which has already entered Timor-Leste's maritime territory.

Regulatory Context and Stated Benefits

Timor-Leste's regulator, Autoridade Nacional do Petroleo (ANP), signed the PSC with Eni in December 2023. ANP states that the seismic data will contribute to informed decision-making, promote investment confidence, and support the sustainable development of the country's energy sector. The operation exemplifies collaboration between the government and Eni to ensure activities meet international standards for safety, environmental protection, and operational excellence.

Broader Licensing Context

The TL-SO-22-23 PSC was one of 18 blocks offered by the Timor-Leste government in its second licensing round.
