FPSO Cidade de Niteroi Arrives at Danish Recycling Yard

Japanese floater specialist Modec has confirmed that its Cidade de Niteroi floating production, storage, and offloading vessel (FPSO) has arrived at a ship recycling facility in Denmark. The vessel departed from Petrobras' Marlim Leste oilfield in the Santos basin offshore Brazil last month.

Planned Recycling Process

The FPSO is scheduled to undergo ship recycling in compliance with applicable regulations, including the European Union Ship Recycling Regulation and the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships (2009).

Operational History

Modec originally won the turnkey engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) contract for the Cidade de Niteroi, which achieved first oil in February 2009. The company subsequently provided charter and operations and maintenance (O&M) services for approximately 17 years. During its operational life, the FPSO processed nearly 159 million barrels of oil.

Modec's Ongoing Operations

Despite the conclusion of this charter and O&M services, Modec continues to operate and maintain numerous FPSOs and floating storage and offloading vessels worldwide. The company emphasized its commitment to contributing to a stable energy supply, backed by its end-to-end capabilities from EPCI through O&M and decades of experience, including four FPSOs currently under construction.
