Eni's Matsola-1 exploration well offshore Libya, drilled by the Saipem 10,000 drillship starting in late January, resulted in a non-commercial discovery, according to Guido Brusco, Eni's head of E&P. The well targeted a deepwater prospect in the lightly drilled offshore extension of the Sirte basin. Despite the disappointing outcome, Brusco emphasized the significant knowledge gained from the probe, noting that it provided a better understanding of the basin, which is large and diverse with numerous prospects and untapped resources. He highlighted that Eni had not drilled in this play since the early 2000s, so the results will enhance their comprehension of the basin's potential. The well was drilled in approximately 1,900 meters of water to a planned total depth of around 4,500 meters, and the drillship departed the location on April 19.
