Modec Secures Turret Mooring Contract for Eni's Coral Norte FLNG Project

Modec has been awarded a contract to supply an internal turret mooring system for Eni's Coral Norte floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) project in Mozambique. The Coral Norte vessel, with a design capacity of 3.6 million tonnes per annum of LNG, is being constructed by a joint venture of JGC, Samsung Heavy Industries, and Technip Energies—the same consortium that built its predecessor, the Coral Sul FLNG vessel.

A final investment decision for Coral Norte was made in October 2025, with the hull launch completed in January 2026 at Samsung's Geoje shipyard in South Korea. First LNG production is targeted for 2028. Modec, based in Japan, has supported the project since its early stages and is currently progressing engineering and supply activities.

The Sofec turret mooring system is designed to enable the vessel to weathervane safely in a metocean environment prone to cyclones. Arun Duggal, head of Modec's mooring solutions business, stated that the company will continue to invest in local capability, laying the foundation for future projects in the region—a reference to a potential third FLNG vessel being considered by Eni for Mozambique.

A spokesperson for the Technip Energies–JGC joint venture noted that Modec's work on the Coral Sul project established a strong operational baseline and demonstrated clear excellence in engineering and execution.
