QatarEnergy LNG Launches Offshore Pipeline EPCI Tender for North Field West Expansion

QatarEnergy LNG has initiated the pre-qualification process for a major offshore engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) pipeline contract as part of its North Field West (NFW) liquefied natural gas development. The North Field, the world's largest non-associated natural gas reservoir shared with Iran's South Pars field, is central to Qatar's LNG expansion. The NFW project represents the third phase of this expansion, aiming to increase Qatar's liquefaction capacity from 77 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 142 mtpa upon completion.

Scope of the EPCI Package

The workscope for the offshore pipelay package includes the EPCI of nearly 250 kilometers of subsea pipelines, with diameters ranging from 28 to 38 inches. Additionally, the project involves the EPCI of 150 kilometers of subsea cables and several kilometers of umbilicals. The contract is expected to be awarded later in 2025, with contractors currently being prequalified. The specific bidders for this deal have not yet been confirmed, but more details are anticipated as the bid process advances.

Related Offshore Workscope and Project Background

This pipelay package is critical to the NFW offshore workscope, alongside a separate topsides package for multiple platforms. QatarEnergy LNG recently launched an EPCI tender for at least four NFW wellhead topsides. The NFW project, unveiled in 2024, aims to boost Qatar's LNG production capacity by at least 16 mtpa. A joint venture of Technip Energies, Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC), and Gulf Asia Contractor (GAC) won a major onshore EPC deal in February 2025 to build NFW onshore LNG facilities. The overall NFW expansion could cost Qatar over $20 billion, encompassing liquefaction, storage, and offshore facilities.
