PTTEP Increases Production Amid Middle East Crisis

Thailand's upstream oil and gas operator, PTTEP, has maximized its domestic gas production to mitigate potential impacts from the Middle East turmoil. The company has raised its production capacity to 2.72 billion cubic feet per day (Bcfd), up from a daily contractual quantity of around 2.5 Bcfd. This increase is supported by several major offshore projects in the Gulf of Thailand, including Arthit, MTJDA B17-01, Contract 4, and G2/61.

Purpose and Benefits of Increased Output

The additional gas primarily fuels power generation, reducing reliance on fuel imports. It also serves as feedstock for the petrochemical and downstream industries. CEO Montri Rawanchaikul emphasized that the Middle East conflict has significantly impacted global economies and energy security, making stable management of domestic energy resources crucial. The production ramp-up supports power generation for daily consumption, alleviates energy burdens, strengthens Thailand's energy security, and generates additional government revenue for national development initiatives.

Financial and Operational Performance

In the first quarter of 2026, PTTEP reported total revenues of 78.8 billion Thai baht (US$2.49 billion). The average sales volume reached 553,369 barrels of oil equivalent per day, a 14% increase from the first quarter of the previous year. This growth was driven by increased domestic petroleum production and projects acquired in 2025, including MTJDA A18, Algeria Touat, and Malaysia Block SK408.
