TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanne and Galp Energia Chairman Paula Amorim met with Namibia's President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to discuss their strategic partnership in the Orange basin. The companies reaffirmed their long-term commitment to Namibia as a future oil and gas producer and to the responsible development of its energy resources.

Partnership and Licence Exchange

The meeting followed a December deal where TotalEnergies will become the operator of Galp's Petroleum Exploration License 83, which contains the Mopane discoveries. In exchange, Galp will enter PEL 56, containing TotalEnergies' Venus discovery, and the adjacent PEL 91. The executives updated the presidency on this transaction and the operatorship transition at Mopane.

Project Development Plans

For the Venus discovery, the partners have a defined development concept involving subsea wells tied back to a 160,000 barrel-per-day FPSO. They are working to secure conditions for a potential final investment decision in 2026. At the Mopane complex, a three-well exploration and appraisal campaign is scheduled to start this year to better understand the resources and advance the project toward development.

Commitment to Local Value and Regulatory Support

The companies highlighted the expected contributions of the projects to employment, skills development, and the local industry. They also stressed the importance of continued regulatory support for the efficient execution of upcoming project phases. Pouyanne stated the partnership aims to develop Namibia's deepwater potential responsibly while building long-term value and establishing a new regional energy hub.

Amorim described the Mopane discoveries as a transformational opportunity and expressed confidence that Namibia will emerge as a relevant global energy ecosystem. President Nandi-Ndaitwah stated that Namibia has created a conducive investment environment and that the partnership is expected to create much-needed employment opportunities for Namibian youth.
