The GranMorgu deepwater project offshore Suriname, a joint venture between TotalEnergies, APA Corporation, and Staatsolie, is progressing on schedule with production start-up targeted for mid-2028. This $12.2 billion development represents Suriname's first major offshore project.

Project Development and Timeline

Overall project progress has surpassed 30%, with development drilling operations set to commence at the end of the year. The project will utilize a large floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel capable of processing 220,000 barrels of oil per day and 500 million cubic metres of natural gas per day. The field, located approximately 150 kilometres from the coast, holds estimated recoverable reserves exceeding 750 million barrels.

FPSO Construction Status

Construction of the FPSO, to be supplied by SBM Offshore, is 60% complete. The hull has entered drydock at the China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) shipyard for final construction. Following drydock activities, the hull will be transferred to the Cosco shipyard for integration of the topsides modules.

Drilling and Subsea Operations

TotalEnergies has chartered two drilling rigs from Noble Corporation—the semi-submersible Noble Discoverer and the drillship Noble Valiant. Both units are scheduled to begin three-year contracts in Suriname in October 2026. Furthermore, the project has begun receiving subsea infrastructure for seabed installation, with more deliveries expected in August. Subsea operations will be provided by contractors Saipem and TechnipFMC.
