Frequently asked questions

How do I select the business unit whose wells I want to monitor?

Selecting a business unit is required before working in nv.EBS. Open the module, click the current unit name or Select business unit on the toolbar, then choose Enterprise, Company, Production department, or Field. Select the required units and click Select. Lower-level lists are filtered by your higher-level selections, and you can search units by name.

The business unit menu is available inside the module, not on the home page. See Business Unit Selection.

How can I find a well quickly and keep priority wells at the top?

Use the search field in the well management pane to search by all or part of a well name. You can also filter by field or well and sort by a selected parameter.

To mark a priority well, hover over its tile and click First priority, select a reason, and optionally add a comment. You can also enable this setting in Well settings. Priority wells appear at the top of the list. Click the priority icon again or turn off the setting to remove the status. See Well Management Pane.

Which virtual flow meter models are available, and how often do they calculate flow rate?

The virtual flow meter calculates liquid flow rate to compensate for outdated measured data. Calculations run automatically every 15 minutes. You can enable the ML model, the Physical model, or both in Well settings.

Under Configure calculation parameters, choose the wellhead tubing pressure source: Auto, Downstream pressure, or Wellhead tubing pressure. Auto uses wellhead tubing pressure when available and downstream pressure when it is missing. Save your changes. See Well Settings Window.

Why might deviation analysis stop generating alerts?

Deviation analysis requires the Virtual flow meter setting to be enabled. Check that deviation analysis itself is enabled and review the settings applied to the well.

Measurement validity limits how long received liquid flow rate measurements remain valid. After that period expires, new deviation alerts are not generated until a valid measurement arrives. The alert trigger threshold controls the allowable difference between measured and calculated flow rate. See Configuring Deviation Analysis Alerts.

Do changes to default alert settings override custom well settings?

No. The Default subtab defines settings for wells that do not have custom overrides. Settings on the Custom subtab apply to selected wells and take precedence over defaults.

Changing defaults does not replace parameters already configured for a specific well or well group. Reset those custom parameters first if the well should use default settings. This applies to deviation, setpoint, and instant analysis. See Settings.

How does setpoint analysis work, and where do setpoint values come from?

Setpoint analysis generates alerts as monitored parameter values approach their setpoints. You can enable or disable monitoring for individual parameters and configure the approach percentage, using either default settings or custom well settings.

The well's Setpoints tab displays values obtained through integration. Insulation resistance and Reverse rotation are exceptions: they do not have numerical setpoints, and their alerts are triggered when the relevant condition is detected. See Configuring Setpoint Analysis Alerts.

What baseline does instant analysis use for current and frequency alerts?

Instant analysis evaluates deviations in equipment current and frequency against a dynamically calculated baseline based on a 24-hour rolling average. Configure the allowable deviation percentages in the Current and Frequency fields.

You can configure defaults or custom values for selected wells. Resetting a value restores its default; turning off instant analysis disables these alerts. See Configuring Instant Analysis Alerts.

How do I change measurement units and the number of decimal places?

Open Settings from the well management pane and select Units. Find the parameter, choose its measurement unit in the Unit column, and set the number of decimal places in the Precision column.

You can search for a parameter by name and use Reset to cancel changes in a row. Click Save to apply the settings. See Configuring Measurement Units.

How do I export an XLSX report and reduce the number of measurements in it?

Click Report in the well management pane. Select the reporting start and end date/time and the required business units or wells, then add parameters from General information, Equipment, and Operating parameters. Click Export to generate the XLSX report.

Use Data decimation to limit the number of values per well for one or several parameters. Custom decimation provides settings for specific wells. The guide's example reduces 100 measurements to 50 by including every second measurement. See Reports.

How often does the trend chart update?

When Real time is enabled, the trend chart updates as new measurements arrive. When it is disabled, the chart updates every 15 minutes.

The date range picker controls the displayed period. You can also show alerts, downtimes, operational records, and a legend using the chart controls. This chart update setting is separate from the virtual flow meter's calculation interval. See Well Data Window.

Where can I calculate forecast cumulative liquid flow rate?

In the well data window, open the well data display settings and enable Forecast flow rate. The forecast area then appears at the bottom of the Operating parameters tab.

Select At end of day or At end of month, or choose a custom date and time as the calculation horizon. See Well Data Window.

What does a chart template store, and can I modify the default templates?

Templates store axis and parameter settings. The date range and alert indications are configured independently.

Default templates cannot be overwritten, renamed, edited through template settings, duplicated with the Duplicate command, or deleted. To create a variation, change the displayed configuration and use Save as new. You can also create a template from scratch, or duplicate a custom template. See Working with Chart Templates.

What do the heat map tile sizes and colors mean?

A well tile's size corresponds to the parameter selected under Sort by: a larger value produces a larger tile. Colors indicate alert severity, and the well alert indicator reflects the highest severity among its pending alerts. Confirmed alerts are excluded; green indicates no pending alerts.

Group by pad combines wells into pad tiles and sums their values. Wells without pending alerts are hidden by default; enable Show wells without alerts to include them. Click a tile to open the well. See Heat Map.

How do alerts move from the pending list to the archive?

Open a pending alert, select its reason in the Alert confirmation area, optionally add a comment, and click Save. Confirmation moves the alert to the archive. For archived alerts, that confirmation area is for reference only.

Deviation analysis alerts can also be archived automatically after the configured Auto-archive timeout expires. The guide also calls this setting Alert processing time in the deviation settings procedures. See Alert Data Window and Archive.

How can I see the data and possible reasons behind an alert?

Click an alert in the Alerts or Archive table, or in the well data window's Alerts pane. Review Detected deviations, Alleged reasons, and the parameter values on the Overview tab. The displayed values depend on the analysis type.

Use Show all or Alert details for the calculation context. For deviation analysis alerts, the details also include a flowchart explaining how the alleged reason was determined. Comments can be added on the Comments tab. See Alert Data Window.

Can I add the same operational record to several wells?

Yes. Open a well's Operational records tab and click Add. Enter the subject and message, optionally select tags, and enable Duplicate to other wells. Click Add under that option and select the destination wells.

You can remove a well from the destination list before saving. Configure chart display if needed, then click Add at the bottom of the record window. See Working with Operational Records.

Why is an operational record not visible on the trend chart?

Check all three conditions:

  1. Show on chart is enabled in the record settings, with the intended display date/time and selected elements: Subject, Tags, and/or Message.
  2. Oper. records is enabled above the trend chart.
  3. The record's display time falls within the chart's selected time range.

Why can I not edit or delete another user's operational record?

The guide permits editing and deleting only records that you created. Edit and Delete appear when you hover over your own record tiles; they do not appear for other users' records.

To comment on a record, open its tile, enter a comment, and press Enter. See Working with Operational Records.

Can I filter and export pending and archived alerts?

Yes. The Alerts tab lists pending alerts and the Archive tab lists archived alerts. Use a column's filter control, select values, and click Apply. Filters can be applied to several columns, while sorting applies to one column at a time. Use Reset to clear a filter.

The Archive tab also supports predefined or custom time ranges. Click Export at the upper right of either table to export it to XLSX. See Alerts and Archive.

What does User Guide current version cover for Downtimes and Deviations?

Version 1.1.1 identifies Downtimes as the section for wells that are currently idle or were idle in the past, and Deviations as the section for deviations detected in wells of the selected field.

Both sections are marked as under development in this version of the guide, with detailed descriptions planned for future versions. It does not provide procedures for these tabs. See Downtimes and Deviations.
